Car retrieved from Lake Rotorua

A driver has escaped unharmed after his car left Hamurana Rd and ended up in Lake Rotorua.

A police media spokeswoman said the car went into the lake about 1.5km from the intersection with State Highway 33.

A Rotorua Daily Post reporter at the scene said the car had been retrieved and put on a tow truck.

The sister of the car's driver said her brother had managed to climb out of the car, and was okay.

The road is down to one lane, with fire and police at the scene.
