Car plummets off road into side of Auckland house

A car has plummeted metres off a road into the side of an Auckland house this afternoon.

The 4-wheel-drive came off the road at the intersection of East Coast Rd and Rosedale Rd - plunging down into the backyard of a Murrays Bay home, narrowly missing the kitchen window.

One person received moderate injuries in the crash.

It is understood the car was travelling down Rosedale Rd and went straight through the intersection with East Coast Rd about 2.30pm.

The vehicle is in an unstable position, with its nose pressing up against the wall of the brick house, and it has been secured with ropes tied to a power pole.

It is believed a young family was inside the house at the time of the crash.

Emergency services are on the scene.

The crash is causing traffic to build up on Rosedale Rd.

Fire Service spokeswoman Megan Ruru said firefighters had to cut a trapped person free from the car.

Crews were called to the scene at 2.30pm and one East Coast Bays truck was still in attendance at 3.30pm, she said.

The person, who was extricated, had been taken to hospital in a moderate condition, she said.

"One person was trapped," Ms Ruru said.

"[The] status 3 patient was released from the vehicle."

Ambulance and police were also in attendance, she said.

It is the second serious crash where a car has hit a house today.

A 25-year-old woman crashed her vehicle into a Huntly house about 12.50 this morning.
She has since been found to be driving at more than three times the breath alcohol limit - blowing 776mcg when breath tested by police after the Paki St crash, Waikato police spokesman Andrew McAlley said.

Police are yet to confirm details of the crash but skid marks at the scene suggested the car had failed to negotiate a sweeping right bend on Baker St, bowling through a give way sign, crossing into Paki St and crashing into the bottom of the house.
