Watch CCTV footage of the moment a car smashed into the front of a Pak'n Save in Mt Albert and inside the supermarket, sending shopping trolleys sprawling.
A 25-year-old man will go before the court after his car smashed into an Auckland supermarket last night.
Police were called just before midnight after the vehicle ploughed through the front of Pak'n Save in Mt Albert and inside the supermarket, sending shopping trolleys sprawling.
Police North Communications Inspector WillieTaylor said the fire service and ambulance attended but the driver only had "superficial injuries".
Witnesses said it took more than an hour to remove the car from the store.
Foodstuffs spokeswoman Antoinette Laird said though there were staff in the supermarket when the crash happened, fortunately no one was near the window.
She said there was significant damage to the store front, which was currently covered with a tarpaulin, but it would be business as usual.
"It might not look very pretty but the store's open and functioning," Ms Laird said. "People need their groceries."
