Person in serious condition after fleeing driver crashes into truck in Manukau, South Auckland

One person is in a serious condition after a fleeing vehicle crashed into a truck in South Auckland.

Police say about 1.20pm, they received complaints from the public about the vehicle driving erratically in the Weymouth area.

The vehicle was found soon afterwards on Roscommon Rd, but police say it fled onto the Southwestern Motorway when signalled to stop.

Police did not pursue the vehicle, which took the Lambie Drive off-ramp and collided with a stationary truck at the intersection.

A Fire and Emergency NZ spokesman told the Herald they sent three fire engines to the crash on Lambie Dr in Manukau just after 1.26pm.

Hato Hone St John said it was notified at the same time and sent an ambulance and a rapid response unit.

The driver was taken to Middlemore Hospital in a serious but stable condition, while the truck driver wasn’t injured.

A section of Lambie Drive, with the intersection of Manukau Station Rd, has been cordoned off while the Serious Crash Unit examines the scene.
