Car crash closes Paekākāriki Hill Rd north of Wellington

A man has been flown to Wellington hospital in a serious condition after crashing his car off the Paekākāriki Hill road.

The man has been rescued after spending more than two hours trapped in the car, 60 metres down a steep bank.

His car veered off the road just before eight this morning.

The road has been closed while the rescue operation was carried out and is yet to reopen.

Emergency services were called at 7.53am, police said.

The vehicle left the road on the Paekākāriki side of the steep hill.
