Car companies recall vehicles for safety checks

Car companies Mitsubishi and Saab have recalled six types of late-model vehicles to have potential safety problems repaired.

Saab today recalled the 1995 Saab 900 to inspect and possibly replace free of charge their airbag control modules.

In some cases the module's capacitor may cause a short-circuit leading to the "inadvertent airbag deployment", the company said.

The recall applied to the three, five-door and cabriolet models manufactured in 1995.

Meanwhile, Mitsubishi yesterday recalled three of its vehicle models to repair manufacturing flaws.

Managing director John Leighton said the late-model Nimbus and RVR vehicles had problems with their brake hoses.

The Galant VR4 4WD also needed its fuel tank replaced.
