Car catches fire on Christchurch central street, constant explosions reported

Fire crews were called to a car ablaze along a street in the Christchurch suburb of Linwood.

A Fire and Emergency shift manager told the Herald that crews received multiple calls around 6.45pm about a car fire on Gloucester St in Christchurch.

“We received reports of the fire being well involved and constant explosions,” he said.

“We sent one fire truck and found a small fire in the car. We have since extinguished the fire and departed the scene.”
