A 31-year-old Canterbury man has appeared at Christchurch District Court charged with seriously assaulting a newborn child.
A Canterbury man charged with seriously assaulting a newborn baby has appeared in court this morning.
The 31-year-old was granted interim name suppression when he appeared in the Christchurch District Court.
Police allege that he twice caused grievous bodily harm to the infant on July 24.
Judge John Strettell remanded
the man without plea on bail to October 3. Bail conditions prevent the man from contacting the victim or any witnesses and from possessing firearms. He has to live at a Canterbury residential address, and to surrender his passport to police. He's also banned from contacting any child under the age of 5.
Police did not oppose interim name suppression.
