Canterbury crash victim named

A 59-year-old woman killed in a crash involving a truck and a car on State Highway 1 north of Timaru yesterday has been named.

She was Yvonne McGlashan, of Timaru.

The crash happened near Orari, 13km north of Temuka, about 1.15pm, police said.

The head-on crash involved a north-bound car and south-bound truck and trailer unit.

Mrs McGlashan was the sole occupant of the car and died at the scene.

The driver of the truck received minor injuries and was treated by attending ambulance staff.

State Highway 1 was blocked for about 6-1/2 hours, with traffic being diverted.

Inquiries were continuing but speed and alcohol were not thought to be factors, police said.
