The New Zealand Herald titles have again earned more than 30 category finalists in the Canon Media Awards.
The finalists, announced today, were spread across print, digital and a wide range of disciplines including reporting, feature writing, photography and design.
The Herald was finalist for Newspaper of the Year (over 30,000 circulation), Best Newspaper Design and Best Digital Breaking News Coverage.
Herald on Sunday and Weekend Herald for Weekly Newspaper of the Year, and nzherald.co.nz is up for Best Online News Site and Best Website.
The Weekend Herald is also a Best Newspaper Design finalist.
Herald insert The Business is up for Best Newspaper Inserted Magazine, and Windows 8 app for Best Innovation in New Technologies.
Herald editor-in-chief Tim Murphy said the announcement reflected the huge changes made to the paper last year, and the high quality of journalism throughout Herald titles.
"We're delighted for all our finalists after a huge year at the Herald," he said. "The paper underwent some of the biggest changes in its history and quickly established itself as world-class in the compact format.
"To have so many finalists from the daily, Herald on Sunday and Weekend Herald underlines the quality of journalism our teams are producing".
Herald journalist David Fisher was a Senior Reporter of the Year, Best Investigation and Reporter Politics finalist. Nicholas Jones was Junior Reporter of the Year Finalist, and Herald on Sunday's Celeste Gorrell Anstiss was up for Junior Reporter of the Year and Junior Newspaper Feature Writer of the Year.
Herald photographers Sarah Ivey and Richard Robinson were finalists for Best Feature Photo and Best Photo Essay or Slideshow, respectively.
APN's sister publications were also widely represented among finalists, with Bay of Plenty Times and Wairarapa Times-Age all vying for Best Newspaper (up to 30,000 circulation) and hawkesbaytoday.co.nz for Best Online News Site.
The Star is a Best Community Newspaper finalist.
