South Wairarapa Mayor Adrienne Staples said the Candy Lane proposal was obviously named after the applicants.
The proposed name for a new lane in Greytown caused some chuckles at a recent council meeting.
Tania and Craig Candy applied to South Wairarapa District Council to name a right of way "Candy Lane", which was created by a subdivision on Cotter St.
It was their first preference, followedby "Cotterville Lane" and third, "Flax Mill Lane".
Mayor Adrienne Staples said it was obviously named after the applicants.
Councillor Brian Jephson joked: "Either that or a porno movie."
Early settler Pierce Cotter, who Cotter St is named after, established a large flax mill on the land towards Woodside which was known as Riverside.
The old mill, now a woolshed, remains in Monty's Lane.
Councillors voted to approve the name, provided it was supported by the Greytown Community Board. They also moved to amend the policy so all street naming be referred to community boards in the first instance for a recommendation.
