Brown, who finished third at the Australian Masters last week, hasn't played the NZ Open for four years and is unfazed by talk of him being a likely winner.
"Yeah, I don't mind," said the former Johnnie Walker champion. "A lot of things have to go right to win a golf tournament, you need a bit of luck and you need to putt well ... it would be great to have a Kiwi winner."
Outside the top three, another Wellington pro in Gareth Paddison is seen as the next best hope. He is paying $17 to win the event for the first time while New South Welshman Aaran Townsend rounds out the top five rated players at $20 for a victory.
