Former Commonwealth Games representative Emile Richardson won his professional boxing debut in Hamilton last weekend.

Former Commonwealth Games representative Emile Richardson won his professional boxing debut in Hamilton last weekend.

The card for the BX9 boxing event in Auckland on December 13 is taking shape, with another Waikato boxer announced to fight.

Former Commonwealth Games representative Emile Richardson will take on Auckland’s Ioane Auvaa.

The news comes hot on the heels of the announcement that Hamilton boxer Greer Hall will make her professional debut at BX9.

Meanwhile, Richardson made his pro debut last weekend in Hamilton, when he took on Hayden Todd.

Richardson won by unanimous decision.

He wasn’t originally scheduled to fight Todd, who was only called up at the last minute after Richardson’s previous opponents, first Damon Maireroa and then Antonio Elo, pulled out.

Todd is a highly experienced kickboxer who has reached the finals of King in the Ring on multiple occasions.

In the fight with Richardson, Todd was knocked down in the first round, however, he hung on until the end of the four-round fight.

Now Richardson has his sights set on BX9, where he will take on Auvaa.

Auvaa made his professional boxing debut on the Lani Daniels-Alrie Meleisea IBF world heavyweight title undercard in 2023, when he defeated Tyrone Warren by stoppage.

However, Auvaa lost his second fight against Tauranga’s Rini Porter.

Auvaa is not unfamiliar with BX9, as he fought a semi-pro/hybrid boxing match against Oliver Parker in the last event, losing by a close split decision.

For the BX9 event, Richardson joins 27 other boxers, including four from Waikato.

The local fighters include Kianu Johnson, Pikiao Tairua Bracken, Greer Hall and Francis Waitai.

Hall will fight Masterton’s Sarah Linton, while Waitai will be part of the main event, fighting Mielifeier Dalielibieke, of China, for the WBA Oceania Super Middleweight title.

Hall has had an amazing year, winning at the 2025 Queensland Open International Golden Gloves, the New Zealand national amateur championship and Queen of the Ring.

She also claimed a bronze medal at the 2024 World Under-19 Championships and has just been named on the longlist for the next Commonwealth Games.

Waitai, of Hauraki, has a record of 12 wins, three losses and one draw. He currently holds the IBO Asia Pacific super middleweight title.
