Butterfly bounty pays off for Tasman families

A number of families around the Tasman District managed to turn quite a healthy profit on the butterfly bounty hunt.

Over the school holidays, DoC offered up a $10 bounty for every great white bought into its Nelson office.

Over the two weeks hunters bought in more than 130 butterflies into DoC.

Project manager, Bruce Vander Lee says some families worked really well together.

He says one family managed to pocket $80 after brining in eight butterflies.

Mr Vander Lee says with nearly 3500 small white butterflies being handed in, it was easy to see some people found working out which was which quite difficult.
