Burnside High School students in Christchurch have to work from home after internet cut in error

Burnside High School students have been forced to work from home after a contractor accidentally severed its internet connection.

In a post on its Facebook page, the Christchurch school said all students would have “compulsory online learning” tomorrow.

“A contractor working on the water mains replacement on Greers Rd inadvertently cut our internet connection this morning,” the post said.

“The outage means our student management systems and some fire systems are not fully operational.

“Students are asked to stay at home, out of an abundance of caution, and use our online learning tool Schoology.”

The school is in the suburb of Burnside.

It is one of the country’s largest schools, with 2571 students, according to the Ministry of Education.
