Firefighters are working to douse a burning tree in Masterton after overly "enthusiastic" 111 callers rang to report a house fire.
A Fire Service shift manager said people had called to report a house on fire in Church Street, but it turned out to only be a tree.
The fire had not yet been put out but the shift manager said it was not threatening any buildings.
Multiple calls about the fire started coming in about 10.30am.
