Two Drinks Max: Teens film drink-drive tragedy

The destruction caused by drink-drivers was portrayed in films made by college kids from around the country for this year's Students Against Drink Driving short film awards.

A red carpet affair to announce the winners was held at Turners Car Auctions in Auckland on Friday night.

Botany Downs College in East Auckland took out the supreme prize with the film Drive, directed by Calvin Sang.

The movie alternated between a boozy teenage party and a boy distraught in a police station.

Judges described it as "moving, haunting and action packed".

Runner up, and the winner of the cultural influence category, was Gisborne Boys' High School, in association with Mentoring Maori Youth Through Film. The students created a sequel to their entry to last year's film awards.

Whanau 2, shot on the East Coast, tells the story of a young man who accidentally runs over his niece on the way to pick out his mother's tombstone and includes a sequence with an ambulance at a crash.

The second runner up was Opotiki College, while the most creative award went to Waimea College and best depiction of a theme was won by Mt Maunganui College.

Students were asked to submit five minute films on the theme "Plan B4 U Party".
