Boy injured in hit and run

An 11-year-old boy is in a serious condition in Middlemore Hospital after a car crashed into him in a hit and run in South Auckland at 4pm yesterday.

Inspector Earle McIntosh of the police northern communication centre said the crash happened in front of many witnesses on Shifnal Drive, Manurewa.

Police found the Pajero involved several streets away from the crash scene. The car was not stolen.

Police "absolutely" believed the driver knew before fleeing that the boy had been hit. They also say they know who was responsible.

In another incident, a woman was taken to Middlemore Hospital in a serious condition after a van and a utility vehicle collided at the intersection of Great South Rd and Mangere Rd, Otahuhu at 7.55pm.
