Boy, 3, badly injured by 'domestic violence'

A three-year-old Rotorua boy is in a serious condition in hospital after what police described as "domestic violence" left him with head and shoulder injuries.

A 34-year-old Auckland man has been charged with injuring with intent to injure the boy and was to appear in Rotorua District Court today.

Detective Sergeant George Staunton said police were not looking for anybody else in connection with the incident which was discovered about 4pm on Saturday.

"The mother of the young Rotorua boy returned home to discover her boy had a swollen and blackened eye and complained of a sore arm," he said.

The boy would need further X-rays and observation.
