Boxer suffers head injuries

A top amateur boxer was in hospital with serious head injuries hours after he won the New Zealand super-heavyweight title.

Aucklander Peter Williams, who won the title at the New Zealand Amateur Championships last night, is in intensive care at Timaru Hospital.

Auckland Boxing Association president Gary McCrystal said Williams was fine after the bout, but about two hours later he developed a headache and started feeling dizzy.

Mr McCrystal said Williams' father was flying to Timaru.
