Bowls trio head to national finals

The future of outdoor bowls in Wairarapa is bright judging by the excellent results achieved at the regional secondary schools qualifying tournament at Bowls Heretaunga in Wellington last weekend.

Runner-up in the girls' singles was St Matthew's Collegiate student Adele Critchlow and the same spot was filled in the boys pairs by Wairarapa College duo Damien Holder and Jake Woolford. They will now go to the national finals in Hamilton from December 9 to 12.

Critchlow beat her Palmerston North opponent by a decisive margin to clinch second. The sole loss suffered by Holder and Woolford was by a solitary point.

Girls pairs: Caitlin Thompson and Sophie Fisher (Palmerston North) 1, Lisa Simonsen and S. Lange (Hastings Girls' High) 2.

Boys pairs: Ryan Douglas and Cameron Hudson (Gisborne Boys) 1, Damien Holder and Jake Woolford (Wairarapa College) 2.

Girls singles: Tianna White (Hukarere College, Hawke's Bay) 1, Adele Critchlow (St Matthew's Collegiate) 2.

Boys singles: Richard Hocking (Taradale High School) 1, Dean Drummond (Hastings Boys' High) 2.
