Bones found on island beach near Tauranga

Bones have been found washed up on Rangiwaea Island near Tauranga.

A police spokeswoman said officers responded after reports of bones found on the shore of the island about 8am.

They couldn't confirm if the bones were human.

Police were making inquiries.
