Friends and family of 22-year-old Nick Stubbs and his fishing mate waited for news about the missing pair until the light faded at Martins Bay, near Warkworth yesterday
A body has been found near an area where police were searching for missing fisherman Nick Stubbs.
Police recovered the body in the water near Kawau Island in the Hauraki Gulf this afternoon, police spokeswoman Kimberley Mathews said.
A formal identification process would now take place and police were not
in a position to comment on the identity of the person until that was completed, she said.
The death had been referred to the Coroner.
Mr Stubbs, 22, went missing after setting off in a fibreglass boat near Warkworth on October 14 with 37-year-old Stewart Atutahi.
