Bodies of Raymond and James Fleet to be returned to family today

The bodies of James and Raymond Fleet have been officially identified and will be returned to whanau this afternoon.

On Thursday it was announced two bodies had been found in the Mamaku Forest near Rotorua, more than a week after the Mamaku pair went missing.

The post mortems were completed yesterday and police have today confirmed the bodies are that of James, 25, and his uncle Raymond Fleet, 51.

The bodies were being returned to family in Mamaku this afternoon, Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Van Kempen said.

"On Friday local kaumatua carried out a blessing as the bodies were moved from the site where they were found.

"Police and family were in attendance for the blessing."

The investigation team was continuing to follow up on a number of inquiries in relation to the men's deaths, Mr Van Kampen said.

He would not say how or when the men died.

"At this stage police is not in a position to comment further."

At a media conference on Friday, police would not be drawn on whether they suspected drug or gang involvement in the Fleets' deaths, but said they were "not ruling anything in or out" of the investigation at this stage.

Meanwhile, an online donation page for the family of the pair has raised more than $4000 in the last two days.

The page has been set up by the best friend of James' mother, Bronwyn Fleet, as a way for people to support the men's family.

"Her and her wonderful whanau hold a special place in my heart and I'm devastated for their loss," she wrote on the Givealittle page.

Money raised would help pay for funeral, food and other related costs.
