Boatie rescues father, son

A father and son have been rescued by a boatie after a wave swamped their kayak at Bucklands Beach.

Police said a witness called police at 8.15am after seeing two people calling for help in the water at Bucklands Beach, near The Parade, Howick.

A local boatie picked the father and his 8-year-old son out of the water and returned them to shore.

Police said the pair were cold after spending 20 minutes in the water when a wave tipped them out of a kayak.

The father and son had been fishing in a two-person kayak when the wave came, and were unable to get back into the kayak, police said.
