BMW makes the extras standard on X5

BMW's new technology-loaded X5 goes on sale in a week, costing only 1.5 per cent more than its predecessor.

BMW's pricing and specification details for the new X5, which goes on sale in New Zealand in a week, show the new model has enhanced specifications and a drive-away price less than 1.5 per cent more than the model it replaces.

"We're launching with X5 30d and X5 M50d and are pleased to reveal that features such as head-up display, rear-view camera with surround view, eight-speed sport automatic transmission, bi-xenon adaptive headlights and automatic tailgate are standard on these models," said BMW NZ's managing director, Nina Englert.

Drive-away prices start with the X5 30d at $129,000. The top-of-the-range M50d is $174,000, and the M-Sport package is a further $5500.

The X5 comes with EfficientDynamics technology and includes ECO PRO mode which contributes towards reduced fuel consumption of up to 16 per cent.

Powered by a six cylinder diesel, the 30d has 190kW/560Nm, giving a claimed zero to 100 km/h time of 6.9 seconds and 6.2l/100km.

The fastest in the range, the petrol-driven X5M 50d, has 280kW/740 Nm does zero to 100km/h in 5.3s and 6.7l/100 km.

The X5 M, is expected to go on sale late next year after the inclusion of further models, the X5 25d and 40d, to the range early next year.

"Sales of BMW X5 diesel models, specifically the X5 M50d, have far exceeded the petrol model and are more in keeping with local requirements relating to all-round performance," said Englert.

Dynamic Performance Control and Dynamic Drive form the Dynamic adaptive suspension package fitted as standard on the M50d.

The third generation X5 also introduces two interior and exterior design schemes, Pure Experience and Pure Excellence, in addition to the optional M Sport package.

The Pure Experience exterior is fitted as standard in the 30d, while the no-cost-option Pure Excellence exterior is more upmarket.

New BMW ConnectedDrive driver assistance systems and mobility services add further best-in-class accolades to the X5's list, including the new Driving Assistant safety package which has a lane departure warning and collision warning system as standard on the 30d.

The X5 M50d has Driving Assistant Plus as standard. This includes Driving Assistant and active cruise control with stop and go function.

Other standard equipment includes freestanding 10.25-inch Control Display for iDrive operating system, Touch Controller with touch-sensitive surface, extended storage areas and internet functionality.

New options are BMW Night Vision with pedestrian recognition and Dynamic Light Spot, and the new rear-seat entertainment system.
