A three-year-old boy was killed when he was hit by a vehicle backing out of a driveway in Blenheim today.
The incident happened about 1.30pm, Sergeant Michael Porter of Blenheim police said.
The boy was riding on a small scooter at the time the car, with two women
occupants, backed out on to the street.
The child was taken by ambulance to Blenheim's Wairau Hospital, but died from his injuries about an hour later.
