Bitter battle but colleges secure wins

Makoura College and Wairarapa College had to fight to the bitter end for their wins in Netball Wairarapa premier one competition matches at the Colombo Rd courts in Masterton on Saturday.

Everything pointed to Makoura College having a battle royal with St Matthew's Collegiate and so it proved with Makoura taking the honours by just three goals, 40 to 37.

Even closer was the game between Wairarapa College and Carterton New World Lynx which went right to the wire, the students prevailing by a solitary goal, 35 to 34.

Defending champions Harcourts showed they remain the team to beat for this year's title with a convincing 60-26 win over Carterton New World Legends and Pioneer Blue were too strong for Baywide Gladstone, winning 39-35.
