Big whitebait season expected for West Coast

The Department of Conservation is expecting another busy West Coast whitebait season when it opens tomorrow. It closes on November 14.

Whitebait throughout New Zealand are protected by a set of regulations and whitebaiters must ensure they comply or risk fines of up to $5000.

Fishing is allowed from 5 am to 8 pm, or 6 am to 9 pm during daylight saving.
