The Big Gay Out hits Auckland today, with huge crowds expected.
The event is organised by the Aids Foundation, and is now in its ninth year.
Executive director Rachael Le Mesurier says the event is a key part of creating safe and supportive environments for gay people.
She
says the Big Gay Out also celebrates the work being done to prevent the spread of HIV and AIDS.
The Big Gay Out takes place at Coyle Park in Point Chevalier from midday until mid-evening.
The event features a 12-metre long slide with water-based lubricant on it, a 'throbbing' tent, and a handbag throwing contest.
