Two brothers have been fined more than $16,000 in the Manukau District Court for collecting images of child abuse.
Siva Gounder, 23, was fined $12,000 on 15 charges of collecting the images and his brother Ravi, 24, was fined $4500 on nine charges, the Department of Internal Affairs said.
Both had pleaded
guilty.
The department's gaming and censorship regulation group general manager, Keith Manch, said the pair had collected 196 objectionable images and one objectionable video.
They included images of adult men and women sexually abusing a young girl, children being forced to perform sex acts and children in sexual poses. The children were aged between 7 and 10.
"I cannot stress enough that these are not victimless crimes," Mr Manch said.
"Collectors and traders take gratification from watching the abuse of real children."
The brothers were tracked down after they accessed child porn on the internet in 2000 and 2002.
