Best of the Web: Pride as our page hits 10,000 likes

The Wairarapa Times-Age Facebook page has achieved 10,000 likes this week.

What is the Best of the Web this week?

That accolade belongs to the Wairarapa Times-Age Facebook page in its entirety.

On Wednesday evening, the page ticked over 10,000 likes, a heady milestone in the evolution of the page.

We achieved 5000 likes about two years ago and the numbers grew rapidly as people used the page to "sideways link" to the Wairarapa Times-Age website.

But it was the ability to comment on Facebook postings that has made the page so engaged.

We have watched as people have dissected stories and bitterly debated among themselves over the circumstances in them. But we've also seen people equally enjoy the inspiring stories, and have posted to give their accolades to those they consider role models in our community.

And there's always Thought of the Day, which can be inspiring, humorous, rude or inexplicable. As well as the audience having a go, it has attracted a cohort of regulars who try and outdo one another with witty responses.

Thank you to the audience who have liked and watched our page - and have, through us, kept up with what's happening in Wairarapa.
