Bealey Rd, Selwyn crash: One person critically injured after car hits pole

One person has been airlifted to hospital with critical injuries after a vehicle struck a power pole south of Christchurch this morning.

Police responded to the crash on Bealey Rd, near Hororata, at around 7.50am.

Hato Hone St John sent a first response unit, rapid response unit, ambulance and an air rescue helicopter to the scene.

One person was airlifted to Christchurch Hospital in a critical condition.

The Serious Crash Unit has been advised, and the road is expected to remain closed while emergency services work at the scene.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and expect delays.
