Wairarapa batsmen are making their mark at the Central Districts under-15 cricket tournament being played at Rathkeale College this week. First to make the headlines was Zac Caldwell who scored 156 not out against Wanganui in a match won by Wairarapa by 123 runs.
And, on Wednesday, Liam Burlingwas the star act with a knock of 115 on the first day of a two-day fixture with Marlborough. Burling was the catalyst to Wairarapa reaching a first innings total of 290 with his main support coming from Guy Percy who chimed in with 51. In reply, Marlborough were struggling at 167-9 in their first innings when stumps were drawn.

Wairarapa 77 (T McKay 23) and 147-9 (Zac Caldwell 24, Gus Wakleing 21) lost on the first innings to Taranaki 191-9 (Gus Wakeling 2-41, Cole Freeman 2-32, Miller Paton-Masters 2-10).
Wairarapa 290 (Liam Burling 115, Guy Percy 51) v Marlborough 167-9 (Brad Griffith 3-29, Cole Freeman 3-54).
Meanwhile, Wairarapa suffered a six-wicket defeat at the hands of Marlborough at the Central Districts under-17 tournament in Napier on Wednesday - their third defeat of the tournament. Batting first, Wairarapa were all out for 161 in 35 overs, with lower order players Alex Glengarry (32), Liam Price (15) and Matthew Sprowson (15) providing the bulk of the runs.
