The assaulted man, who did not want to be named, was recovering at his home yesterday with a swollen forehead, a broken left cheekbone and bruising all over his face.
He is to have surgery on his cheekbone today.
The man was one of four people hurt in an incident last November while standing on a deck at his friend's place which collapsed and fell about three metres.
He said yesterday that he had only just recovered from the two sprained ankles he suffered in the accident.
He had little recollection of the events on Friday morning but remembers spending the night at local club Access with a bunch of friends.
"I just went out with a couple of mates and then everything was just like a blackout, I woke up in hospital and my cousin was sitting next to the bed," he said.
Police said initial calls to the 111 service described the man being attacked by three males and kicked in the head while on the ground.
Blood was splattered at the scene.
But Waikato police communications manager Andrew McAlley said police had since spoken to several witnesses and reviewed CCTV footage and were not seeking anyone further in relation to the matter. The two other men at the incident were witnesses and police wanted to speak to them.
