Balls of fire light up Waimauku sky

Balls of fire have been dancing through the Waimauku sky tonight.

Jess Angove was dropping off her child off at a camp about 9.15pm when she looked up and saw 10 to 15 "globes of fire" lighting up the sky above Waimauku School, near the Muriwai turn off.

"They were glowing balls flying through the air, they looked like they were coming from over Waimauku way, flying out west. They were just getting higher and higher and higher."

Angove believed the balls may have been lanterns.

"It was just really weird."

Five or six vehicles pulled into the school's parking lot to stop and take a look, she said.
