Bail for Castlepoint sex assault accused

A 25-year-old man, who has interim name suppression, appeared in Masterton District Court last Thursday charged with indecently assaulting a girl, 13.

A man charged with indecently assaulting a 13-year-old girl in her tent on New Year's Eve in Castlepoint has appeared in court.

The 25-year-old man, who has interim name suppression, appeared in Masterton District Court last Thursday.

He has yet to enter a plea.

The man faces one charge of indecently assaulting the girl and an unrelated charge of driving without a licence.

The man was arrested after the case aired on TV2's Police Ten 7 on June 11.

Police said that at about 12.30am on Wednesday, December 31, the girl and a friend were walking along Jetty Rd when a man in a 4WD called the girls over to his car. They declined and went to the property where they were camping. About 1.30am the girls were woken in their tent by the same man who is alleged to have indecently assaulted one of them.

Police said the victim fought the man off and both girls were distressed.

The man has been remanded on bail until July 9.
