KEY POINTS:
A backpacker has won $1 million in Lotto on his second day in New Zealand.
The man, who wants to remain anonymous, bought a Lotto ticket at the Countdown Northlands Kiosk in Christchurch.
He said he and his friends watched the Lotto draw on television.
"The first thingI did was to ring my mum and share the good news with my family."
The winner and his friends had planned to travel around New Zealand for a few months and do some fruit picking.
"We will now be able to travel in a bit more style. I still want to continue my holiday, however I am now thinking about some business or study possibilities that this win will make possible," he said.
This is the second $1 million Lotto win in two weeks in Christchurch.
