Baby dies suddenly in Waikato home

A 10-month-old baby died in a suspected drowning at a Waikato home yesterday.

Police were called to the home in Putaruru about 8pm.

Ambulance staff attended but were not able to revive the baby.

A Northern police spokesman told the Herald tonight the tragedy involved a drowning.

No further details regarding the deceased or family are available at present.

The scene would remain closed overnight while police conducted a scene examination.

The death has been referred to the coroner.
