An incorrigible abalone (paua) poacher who has been fined A$28,000 ($31,000) over the past three years and repeatedly jailed, was yesterday deported from Australia to New Zealand.
When Timothy John Borstrok, 38, last faced a New South Wales court for abalone poaching the magistrate complained that the maximum penalties available -
fines of A$11,000 and three months' jail - were too lenient for the crime.
Borstrok arrived in Australia in 1999 and was first prosecuted for poaching in December 2000.
Persistent re-offending kept bringing him before the courts.
Borstrok was once re-arrested for new abalone offences the same day he was freed from jail.
After a court jailed him for the third time last year, his repeated offending was referred to the Immigration Department.
The Minister cancelled Borstrok's visa and he was deported.
