Auckland's North-Western Motorway clear after fatal crash

A fatal motorcycle and truck collision caused major congestion on Auckland's North-Western Motorway this morning.

The road was cleared by midday.

The collision happened on the motorway, between St Lukes and Great North roads, about 9.45am. The motorcyclist died at the scene.

All lanes citybound between Great North Road and Western Springs were closed to traffic along with the Great North Road on-ramp.

Emergency services were at the scene and traffic was being taken off the motorway between these points.

One lane was open for city-bound traffic between Waterview and St Lukes to allow vehicles already in the closure area to move clear. West bound traffic was not affected.

Police said there would be major congestion in the area for some time as emergency services attend to the scene.

The Serious Crash Unit attended.

It followed a hit and run this morning in which a motorcyclist was left injured and had to be taken to hospital.

The driver did not stop to check on the motorcyclist.
