An Auckland dairy owner and his partner have fought back against a pair of "bandits" who robbed their Westmere store on Saturday morning.

Footage posted online by Garnet Dairy shows the thieves walking behind the counter and attacking the owners before filling their bags with cigarettes and other goods.

During the encounter, the dairy owner stands his ground, pushing and yelling at bandits in an attempt to drive them out the store.

One of the robbers then pulled a meat cleaver out of his bag before putting it back in his bag.

During the incident, the owner's partner comes out from the back of the store and attempts to push one of the robbers away.

One of the robbers then nearly pushes her to the ground as they all tussle behind the counter.

One of the robbers then punches the owner in the face.

The store owner is then seen picking up a chair and chasing the robbers out of the store.

The dairy revealed that one of their regular customers, who was in the store at the time of the robbery, contacted police as the situation was unfolding.

Police confirmed the robbery happened at 10.51am on Saturday.

"Cigarettes were taken but there were no serious injuries and medical attention was not required. Inquiries are ongoing to locate the offenders," a police spokeswoman said.

Garnet Dairy posted the footage to Facebook on Saturday, writing: "Have you seen these bandits? Please report them to the authorities if you know them. They stole quite a lot of cigarettes from us this morning, and beat up the owner," the dairy's Facebook post said.

Concerned locals took to the page fearing for the owner's wellbeing and furious at the robbers.

The dairy owners provided an update to their wellbeing, writing: "Thank you everyone for your love and support - we are all okay.

"A little banged up and shook up but otherwise okay."

Police are investigating.
