Woman arrested at Auckland International Airport after 22kg of methamphetamine found in checked luggage

A woman could be jailed for life after allegedly trying to smuggle 22kg of methamphetamine into New Zealand inside her checked luggage.

The unemployed 33-year-old was detained yesterday at Auckland International Airport.

Court documents show she landed in NZ on flight SQ285 from Singapore.

The Class A controlled drug was allegedly found in her checked baggage.

She has been charged with one count of importation and is due to appear in Manukau District Court this afternoon.

Under the Misuse of Drugs Act, the woman, who is listed as having no fixed abode, could face life imprisonment if convicted.
