Two-vehicle crash causes heavy congestion on Great North Rd to Henderson

Traffic is building along a key route in and out of central Auckland following a two-vehicle car crash.

Police were alerted to the incident at the intersection of Kirby St and Great North Rd at around 12.50pm.

One of the vehicles involved was left in the middle of the road while another had spun onto a berm, blocking the footpath.

Hato Hone St John said it sent one ambulance to the scene, where crew assessed and treated one patient in a minor condition.

A Herald reporter at the site said traffic heading westward towards Henderson was being diverted along an alternative route, while New Lynn-bound traffic was restricted to one lane.

Google Traffic data shows congestion is strongest for motorists heading towards Henderson, easing after the roundabout that intersects with Te Atatu Rd.
