Two security guards were filmed punching and kicking a man while on the ground, on Great South Rd in Ōtāhuhu, reportedly outside the Northern Police Communications Centre.
Multiple people have been charged over the alleged assault of a man by two security guards in the middle of a main Auckland road.
Footage emerged showing the security guards kicking and punching a man on Great South Rd last Friday.
In a clip posted to social media, twomen wearing security guard uniforms can be seen kicking a man in the head and punching him in the face and stomach while trying to drag him from the busy road.
Police said they were investigating the February 27 incident, which happened in Ōtāhuhu outside the Northern Communications Centre, in the middle of the day.
The centre, also known as Piki Ki Te Ao, is a 24/7 emergency hub used by police and fire services.
In an update this afternoon, Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Hayward, of Counties Manukau West CIB, said inquiries began after a police unit passed by an altercation occurring allegedly between two security guards and a man.
“We have made further inquiries into what has taken place, and two men have been charged as a result,” Hayward said.
He said the men, aged 24 and 36, have been jointly charged with injuring with intent. They are due to appear in the Manukau District Court on March 10.
It is not clear how the incident began or who the security guards were working for at the time of the incident.
Footage appeared to show a car stopped at traffic lights where the fight broke out taking the brunt of the first hit after the member of public involved tripped back and fell into the vehicle. The driver slowly drove through a red light to avoid the group.
Footage has emerged of the incident in Auckland, sparking a police investigation.
One of the security guards can then be seen appearing to kick the man in the head before the other security guard dragged him across to the side of the road.
Once all three were off the road, one security guard can be seen gripping the man by the hair while he continued to deliver punches to the side of his stomach, with the second guard stood next to him.
The guard can be seen punching the man with closed fists at least four times.
Hayward earlier confirmed all three men were not connected to police in any way, despite the scene having unfolded outside a police building.
