Track fault disrupts Auckland trains; Western Line services halted

Western line trains from Waitematā (Britomart) train station towards Swanson have been cancelled until at least 7pm because of a track fault.

Auckland Transport (AT) said: “KiwiRail have closed one line leading into Britomart due to a track fault identified through routine inspection. This means there will be some disruption across the Southern, Western and Onehunga lines.

“Customers are advised to check the AT mobile app to plan their journeys and scheduled buses will accept train tickets until the end of service.”

The Auckland Transport website said the Western Line will run at a reduced frequency due to a track infrastructure issue, with trains only operating between Newmarket and Swanson every 20 minutes.

Disruption on the Western Line is expected to last until 11.59pm this evening.

The Southern Line is also impacted, with passengers being told to expect delays and cancellation.

Trains to Britomart on the line will not be stopping between Ōtāhuhu and Britomart until 11.30pm, according to the Auckland Transport website.

Onehunga trains will only operate between Newmarket and Ōtāhuhu and will not be stopping at Te Papapa and Onehunga until the end of service today.

However, bus route 74 is making a detour via the Penrose station for passengers travelling to and from the Onehunga station.

The Eastern Line is not facing any service disruption.
