Police investigating suspicious fire in central Auckland suburb

Police are investigating a suspicious early morning house fire that left one person hospitalised.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand was called to the address on Potter Ave in the central Auckland suburb of Wesley about 4am today.

Police said there was one person in the house at the time who had to be extricated by responders.

Hato Hone St John said an ambulance and rapid response unit attended the scene and transported a patient to Auckland City Hospital in a moderate condition.

Images from the property showed melted guttering at the front of the brick house with makeshift wood panels boarding up the entryway.

A Fire and Emergency spokesperson said there was “a lot of smoke in the house, and firefighters ventilated the property”.

Police said they would be carrying out a scene examination today as inquiries into the cause of the fire continue.
