Police car involved in crash on Auckland’s Maioro St overbridge, traffic diversions in place

Traffic diversions are in place after a two-car crash on Maioro St in New Windsor.

One person is receiving medical attention following a crash involving a police car on a main central Auckland road.

Police said they were called to the scene on the Maioro St overbridge in New Windsor at about 10.30am this morning.

The bridge crosses the Southwestern Motorway and is near the busy Waterview Tunnel.

A photograph of the crash, sent to the Herald, shows a silver Toyota Vitz that appears to have struck the driver’s side of a police car, damaging the right rear door.

A witness said they saw a member of the public checking on a police officer who was still in the driver’s seat following the collision.

Traffic diversions are in place after a two-car crash on Maioro St in New Windsor.

Ambulance staff were attending to one person who received moderate injuries, police said.

The accident comes after two earlier crashes on Auckland’s motorway network which left six people injured.
