Person rescued after being trapped under vehicle in Westmere, Auckland

A person is seriously injured after being trapped under a vehicle in a central Auckland suburb.

Fire and Emergency said its staff had to lift the vehicle to free the person at Westmere.

They were called to the scene on Chester Ave at 11.10am.

Hato Hone St John said the person was seriously injured and had been taken to Auckland City Hospital.

Police confirmed emergency services responded to an incident involving a car and a pedestrian.

Shaken and upset workers sitting across from a construction site at a property on Chester Ave said what occurred was “just an accident” and did not want to speak any further.

The property on the quiet residential street was under a wide police cordon with at least three police cars present.

A white van with damage to its rear bumper was inside the taped-off property.

Neighbours would not be drawn about what happened.

Just days ago, a Wānaka man died after being trapped under his vehicle.

Police named him today as 85-year-old David Simmers.

Police said they were called to his home in Roche St on Monday. Despite efforts from emergency responders, they could not revive him.
