Two dead after separate overnight crashes in Wellsford and Mangapai

One person has died after a car crash in Wellsford.

Two people have died in separate single-car crashes overnight in Wellsford and Mangapai.

A police spokesperson said the car crashed into a tree in Wellsford at around 1.40am.

“Sadly, the sole occupant died at the scene.”

Waiteitei Rd has been closed between Farmers Lime and Whangaripo Valley Rds.

The spokesperson said the Serious Crash Unit had already attended the scene overnight, and police are continuing their investigation into the crash.

At 10.50pm last night, another car crashed on Waiotira Rd near Mangapai, south of Whangārei.

“Sadly, the passenger of the vehicle died despite medical assistance being provided at the scene,” a police spokesperson said.

“The Serious Crash Unit deployed to the scene overnight to carry out enquiries.”

The driver was taken to hospital and is speaking to police as part of their investigations into the crash.
